Porcelain at s. bernardo

S. Bernardo consistently produces decorative pieces in Porcelain.

Porcelain production at S. Bernardo always considers the artistic nobility of each piece. This way, the produced pieces always have a unique and special character, an asset that distinguishes us.

Our production process is almost exclusively made by slip casting, which is the method that best suits our typology of decorative pieces.

During the production of each porcelain piece, we pay extreme attention to all the details that influence the final quality of the work. From studying each piece in our design department, to mould production and adjustment, glazing selection and production, and rigorous drying and firing processes.

what is porcelain

Porcelain is the noblest clay in ceramics. It is composed of various kaolins, quartz, and feldspar mixed in variable proportions. The final glaze firing is performed at high temperatures (1300 ºC – 1400 ºC). Porcelain has high mechanical strength, zero porosity, and translucency. These properties confer durability, safety, soft touch, and beauty.

how it's made?

Firstly, the raw materials are selected and the desired amounts weighed, then they go through a series of preparation steps.

They are crushed and purified, mixed together.

Next phase is the production of the desired form by one of the available methods (pressing, casting or others).

Once the porcelain has been formed, it is subjected to a final purification process, bisque-firing then the pieces will be glazed and fired again at a higher temperature.

Pieces can still be decorated normally with the application of decals, filament and manual or spray painting. Some of the decoration techniques and products require the piece to be fired again.
